Why milchrechnung exists
How an in-house need became a free tool — and how that same experience can help you.
Recently, several clients approached us with the same topic: e-invoicing. Integrating it into existing workflows, building it into software, connecting it to their systems. And we needed to issue e-invoices ourselves — and couldn't find a free solution that convinced us.
So we built our own.
milchrechnung was three things at once for us: a way to dig deep into the subject. A chance to try new technology in practice rather than just assess it in theory. And a tool of our own — for creating and checking invoices, and as a debugging tool for the e-invoicing solutions we build for clients.
That fits how we work: open source, test-driven, with a clear view of what actually holds up. Good software doesn't come from enthusiasm alone, but from sound architecture and the willingness to truly understand a thing. milchrechnung is our own proof of that — you're using it right now.
milchrechnung is a side project — born alongside what we mainly do: custom digital solutions for businesses. As Rudolf Bohrer GmbH, we've been doing that for over 25 years, across more than 350 projects.
